Kerabu Taugeh

Kerabu is a type of salad originated from Malaysia or Thailand which can be made with any combination of cooked or uncooked fruits and vegetables, as well as the occasional meat or seafood ingredient. It is usually made from fruits (such as pineapple or mango), vegetables, chilies and fresh herbs (such as ginger flower, mint, etc. and sometime with rice. There are many kerabu recipes, which often have little common in preparation. So, kerabu taugeh is made from vegetable which is bean sprout (tauge). There are many different ways to prepare kerabu taugeh according to the individuals preferences.

Ingredients300 gm beansprouts - tailed and washed150 gm prawns - shelled and blanched to cook, sliced thinly100 gm shallots - peeled and sliced thinly1 ginger flower - finely sliced [just before mixing]3 - 4 tbsp lime juice3 tbsp sambal belacan [homemade or store bought] 1/2 tbsp sugar2 - 3 tbsp kerisik [toasted grated white coconut] - prepared ahead and stored in airtight container


1. Blanched beansprouts in hot water for a few seconds. Immediately drain in a colander. Set aside to cool.

2. Mix lime juice with sugar, sambal belacan and ginger flower in a mixing bowl.
3. Add in beansprouts, cooked prawns, shallots and kerisik.
4. Toss to mix well. Serve immediately.
